Marcus Aurelius’ attitudes cannot possibly be compared to those of a 21st century man. While Stoic principles remain the same, the social milieu is totally different.
We have evidence that Marcus was mindful of doing his best within the structure of his society. We have very clear contrary evidence regarding Bezos. As for Bezos’ motives, my speculation is based on what he says and does, which is the only guide to a person’s character.
Seneca explicitly says that the pursuit of wealth gets in the way of virtue. So it’s not just my interpretation of Stoic ethics. (It’s Pigliucci, not Pagliucci.)
