No, John, I most obviously don’t want to turn Stoicism into a religion. I don’t think of Epictetus as Jesus, or the Enchiridion as scripture.
That said, both religions and philosophies of life have the same goal and a similar structure. They are meant to help people make sense of things and live a good life. They do this by way of a metaphysics (an account of how the world hangs together) and an ethics (an account of how we should live in the world). I just think that philosophy beats the crap out of religion when it comes to the soundness of the approach.
